How to choose an IPTV subscription

There are plenty of IPTV services and even more promises. This checklist helps you ask the right questions – whichever provider you end up choosing.

1. Content and rights

Start with what matters most: what will you be able to watch, and does the provider have the right to distribute it? Ask for a concrete answer. It also helps to write down what you actually watch in a normal week – that makes it easier to judge whether the offer fits.

2. Supported devices

A subscription you cannot use on your own TV is worth nothing. Find out:

  • the brand and exact model,
  • the operating system and version,
  • which app is required and where you download it.

Get the answer before you pay. The Devices page explains where to find the details.

3. Terms you can read

Decent terms answer four questions:

  1. How long is the period, and when does it start?
  2. What happens when the period ends?
  3. What applies if the service does not work?
  4. How do you pay, and to whom?

If you cannot get the answers in writing, hold off buying.

4. Customer support you can reach

Test the support before you buy. Ask a simple question and note how long the reply takes – and whether it actually answers what you asked. Ask when support is available, too.

5. Privacy

Do not hand over more information than necessary. A provider should be able to explain which details are needed and why. Never share your account details with others, and be careful with apps from unknown sources.

6. Transparent pricing

Compare the total price for the whole period, and work out the cost per account if you need more than one. Be wary of prices that only apply to a short introductory period. SagaIPTV has three yearly packages – €50, €95 and €140 for one, two and three accounts – and the full list is on the pricing page. The article IPTV subscription costs shows how to do the sums.

In short: your checklist

  • I know what is included and have asked about the rights.
  • My device has been confirmed.
  • I have the terms in writing.
  • I have tested the support.
  • I only give the details that are necessary.
  • I know the total price.

If you can tick all six, you have a sound basis for a decision. To compare several options side by side, use the criteria on the Best IPTV subscription page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the single most important question to ask?

Ask what is included and which rights the provider holds to the content. A clear answer to that tells you a lot about everything else.

Where can I get independent advice?

Most countries have a public consumer authority or consumer council that offers free, independent guidance on contracts and online purchases.
